A heritage residential suburb north-west of Bendigo with gold-rush roots, a High Street main street, Canterbury Park and Lake Neangar.

The suburb

Canterbury Park, Lake Neangar and Brassey Square

Gold finds at Eaglehawk, California Gully and Sailors Gully in early 1852 saw the population grow quickly, helped along by Joseph Crook, who found a nugget while searching for stray horses. Town lots along High Street were sold in 1854 and the Borough of Eaglehawk was created in 1862. The town hall on Brassey Square dates from 1901. The stone cottages of Harvey Town in Clarke Street date from 1875.

Victorian Places describes Eaglehawk as a well-preserved heritage area, especially the civic and religious precinct between the primary school and the Uniting church. High Street is the main street. Canterbury Park, a botanical garden from the 1870s and 1880s, adjoins Lake Neangar and has an oval plus swimming, tennis, bowls and croquet. The Star Cinema is a community-owned cinema in the old town hall.

Bendigo Leisure Centre (YMCA) has a 50 metre indoor pool. The Mulga Bill Bicycle Trail takes in mining attractions and historic sites. Schools include Eaglehawk Primary School, St Liborius Primary School and Eaglehawk Secondary College. Eaglehawk railway station is on the Swan Hill line, south of the town centre. The annual Dahlia and Arts Festival is held in March.
