Ascot real estate
A rural-residential suburb on Bendigo’s northern side, home to the Bendigo racecourse, Bendigo Golf Club and part of Bendigo Regional Park.
The suburb
The racecourse, golf club and regional park
Ascot was surveyed in 1874 and proclaimed a town in 1875. Its name is believed to come from the English racecourse, which suits a place with racing in its story: the Bendigo Jockey Club, established in 1854, chose a site north of Bendigo for its meetings. Neighbouring Epsom, also named after an English course, sits just west across the Bendigo to Echuca railway line. Ascot is also listed among the mining towns of Victoria.
Today Ascot is a rural-residential area. The Bendigo racecourse takes up its south-west corner and hosts about 25 race meetings a year, including the Bendigo, Elmore and Marong Cups. Bendigo Golf Club, founded in 1901, sits beside the racecourse, while Bendigo Regional Park covers the eastern side of the suburb. There is also a bowling club, a caravan park, the Ascot Mutual Improvement Association hall and a centenary plantation from 1938.
