Newbridge real estate

VIC 3551 · Loddon Shire · About 35 km from our East Bendigo office

A small rural village on the Loddon River west of Bendigo in Loddon Shire, near an old ford across the river.

The suburb

Riverside campsites and an old cheese factory winery

Newbridge sits beside the Loddon River near an old ford. A wooden bridge built over the river in 1853 probably gave the town its name. A school and flour mill opened in 1861, followed by a cheese factory in the 1870s. Part of that factory is now home to Newbridge Winery. A brick school building from 1867 and a two storey Swiss Chalet style teacher’s house from 1906 are local landmarks.

The river draws campers and anglers to campsites along its banks. A Family Fishing Bonanza is held each February. The village has a hotel, a general store, a public hall, two ovals and tennis courts. The Newbridge Maroons play football and netball in the Loddon Valley league. Roads from Bendigo, Dunolly, Bridgewater and Maldon all meet here. The local school closed in 1993.
